From: "Paula Margeson" <p.margeson@verizon.net> Subject: Response to Message on May 6 Date: Fri, 9 May 2003 16:52:01 -0500 On May 6, a message was posted to the SILC list serve referred to as: "Tokenism in Independent Living." As chair of the Texas SILC, I resent the inference that the council had no voice in the appointment of a representative from the Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing as an ex officio member. This is not the case. We had, in fact, been pursuing representation from that agency as well as from Advocacy Inc. and the Area Agency on Aging. We are not a token SILC and we work collaboratively with the DSU's in the state. I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the assertions from individuals in other states that they know more about what is going on in Texas than those of us who live here and work to create a positive atmosphere for progress in independent living.
