YOUTH WITH DISABILITIES SPEAK OUT!

Happy ADA Week. Eleven years ago this coming week, the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law. "On A Roll" is celebrating this anniversary by looking into the future. An exciting trend is sweeping the country.... Youth Leadership Workshops, featuring adults with disabilities providing extensive peer mentoring and training to young people with disabilities. On A Roll host Greg Smith was the keynote speaker at a Youth Leadership event in Tallahassee, Florida last week, organized by the Able Trust. This week's show will feature youth who were in attendance at that event. We'll hear enthusiastic voices of the future on this week's show. 

Also, we'll be joined by Kathryn Faulkner of Tampa's Self Reliance Center for Independent Living. Self Reliance is having a Youth Leadership Training next weekend (July 27 - 28) and there is still limited availability for participants.

ON A ROLL'S ADA WEEK ACTIVITIES

On A Roll will be actively involved in ADA Activities in Tampa Bay and Jacksonville, Florida as follows: 

Tampa: ADA RECEPTION – Thursday 7/26, 5-8 pm
Self Reliance Center for Independent Living presents “Looking Toward the Future,” an ADA Celebration Reception Thursday July 26 from 5-8 pm at Hillsborough Community College, in Tampa, FL. Greg Smith will give the keynote address.

Tampa: YOUTH LEADERSHIP TRAINING – Friday 7/27 and Saturday 7/28
On Friday July 27th and Saturday July 28th, Self Reliance will host the first annual Hillsborough County Youth Leadership Training. Youth with disabilities, ages 14-22 will access to vital resources related to personal development, community support, and civil rights. Successful men and women with disabilities serve as role models in helping youth realize their ability, right, and obligation to pursue meaningful employment and contribute to society. Jacksonville: SPIRIT OF ADA CELEBRATION!
Saturday, 7/28 6:30 pm until ???
"On A Roll" will be on-hand for Jacksonville's ADA Celebration, featuring a proclamation of ADA Awareness Week by the City of Jacksonville, presentation of "Disability Friendly Business Awards," a live performance by the band "High Tide," and a fireworks display presented by Prudential Financial!

LIVE REMOTE BROADCAST OF “ON A ROLL” FROM FERMAN CHEVROLET –Sunday 7/29 5-8 pm. Tampa's Ferman Chevrolet will host a live remote broadcast of "On A Roll." Information and resources about the latest technology in adaptive driving equipment for people with disabilities will be on display.

"On A Roll" will be giving away prizes to people in attendance. Ferman Chevrolet is located on State Route 60 West of Brandon. "On A Roll" airs Sundays from 6-8 PM on 22 radio stations nationwide, including 1250 AM, WHNZ in Tampa. Ferman Chevrolet is clearing out the showroom floor to allow space for the live radio audience.
