So far 412 people have told the Obama administration that they need to work with the disability community when developing rules that affect us. If you havent done so, TAKE ACTION NOW! http://ly.adapt.org/aa Even though the proposed change in the DOL companionship exemption will have a significant impact on how people with disabilities can use attendant services (both in agency and consumer directed models), DOL didnt involve us in developing their proposed changes. Even so, disability advocates have identified a way for some of the DOL rules to move forward while creating an opportunity for the administration to work with the disability community on further changes. That approach covers 70 percent of the attendants. It would be a significant win for organized labor, but acknowledge that there should be NOTHING ABOUT US WITHOUT US. We have seen the Obama administration delay access requirements for pools because the hotels pushed back. The Obama administration weakened its approach to defining community and put those rules out for a second round of public comment because assisted living facilities and State Medicaid Directors pushed back. How the Obama administration responds to this issue will be up to them. But it is up to US to MAKE OURSELVES HEARD! So TAKE ACTION NOW! http://ly.adapt.org/aa Bruce Here is a report showing the number of folks who have responded to the alert so far: State....Count Alabama....2 Alaska....4 Arizona....3 Arkansas....4 California....38 Colorado....17 Connecticut....2 Florida....8 Georgia....7 Idaho....2 Illinois....5 Kansas....2 Kentucky....2 Maine....1 Maryland....4 Massachusetts....8 Michigan....5 Minnesota....4 Missouri....4 Montana....1 Nebraska....1 Nevada....1 New Jersey....4 New Mexico....2 New York....211 North Carolina....3 North Dakota....1 Ohio....4 Oregon....4 Pennsylvania....13 Tennessee....6 Texas....20 Utah....2 Vermont....1 Virginia....7 Washington....2 West Virginia....1 Wisconsin....5 Wyoming....1 NATIONAL ADAPT MAILING LIST - Adapt Community Choice Act List http://www.adapt.org
