****ALERT**** ALERT**** ALERT**** ALERT**** ALERT**** ALERT**** Advocates for the Rights of People with Disabilities, Sisters and Brothers: As if a test of our continued involvement, the Governor's Budget Recommendation, House I, once again seeks to move the Architectural Access Board (AAB) out of the Executive Office of Public Safety to a lesser standing department. We the advocates for the people with disabilities forced the move of the AAB into it's present level of importance in 1986 because it directly affects our civil right to public access. If the AAB becomes buried in a departmental level then so may its authority, subject to the approval of others over it. We need you to contact with haste the following: - Kathleen O'Toole, Secretary of Public Safety One Ashburton Place, 21st Floor, Boston, MA 02108 - Governor William Weld State House, Boston, MA 02133 - Representative Paul Caron, Chairman Public Safety Committee State House, Boston, MA 02133 (617)722-2230 Don't forget your own Representative! Tell them to keep the Architectural Access Board as a separate agency with all the powers it presently has (Line Item 8500 - 0100 of the budget). It is of the utmost importance that the AAB remain it's own agency with adequate funding in order to provide the greatest access and independence to people with disabilities in Massachusetts. On behalf of the people, Thank you.
